The 1st Japan-Swiss Academic Workshop
“Solving the Mystery of the Former Swiss Residence Miyama-so :Its Historical Significance and Role”
Academic researchers from Japan and Switzerland have developed strong relationships over time. Last year (2014), the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries was commemorated expecting future development in the areas of science and technology.
In order to fulfill this approach, voluntary researchers from Switzerland and Japan are organizing “The 1st Japan-Swiss Academic Workshop” consisting of a series of academic activities.
Additionally, as part of this event the University of Tsukuba in cooperation with Karuizawa town is inviting researchers and thinkers to gather at The Open House and Symposium “Solving the Mystery of the Former Swiss Residence Miyama-so: Its Historical Significance and Role”. Both events aim to celebrate the Former Swiss Legation named Miyama-so as a meaningful contribution to Karuizawa town during the World War II (1944-1945).
It will count with lively challenging talks and tours conducted in English and Japanese.

スイスと日本の研究者のあいだには､すでに多くの公式・非公式の関係がある。昨年（2014年）には、両国国交樹立後150年周年の記念行事が数多くおこなわれたが、今後も両国の科学技術の発展とともに、さらなる発展が期待される。そこで両国の日瑞の有志によって日瑞研究集会組織委員会を結成し、「日瑞学術交流ワークショップ」として一連の学術研究交流活動を行うこととした。第１回は軽井沢町所有の旧スイス公使館(深山荘)の保存・活用に関連して、長野県軽井沢町と国立大学法人筑波大学の共同主催で両国の歴史研究者らを招聘し、深山荘の見学会と公開シンポジウム「旧スイス公使館深山荘の謎を解く：その歴史的意義と役割」を開催する。
今後、この「第一回日瑞学術交流ワークショップ」が、さらに発展していくことを祈念したい。
